The National Research and Development Center for Sustainable Agriculture (Estidamah) concluded today a workshop titled “Sustainable Systems for Rainfed Crop Production in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia”, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Saudi Reef Program, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), at the Center’s headquarters in Riyadh.
The workshop witnessed a distinguished attendance of researchers, specialists, and stakeholders in the agricultural sector. It included nine specialized scientific sessions covering key topics in developing rainfed agriculture and enhancing food security.
His Excellency the Director General of Estidamah, Dr. Khaled Al-Rohaily, emphasized that the workshop is part of the Center’s efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and support food security in the Kingdom. He noted that rainfed crops represent a strategic pillar for achieving agricultural sustainability under local climatic conditions.
Dr. Nizar Haddad, FAO Country Representative in Saudi Arabia, stated that the workshop aimed to present the latest sustainable techniques and practices for rainfed crop production, as well as to exchange expertise and successful experiences among specialists and researchers. This contributes to developing integrated agricultural strategies that are adapted to the local environment and enhance agricultural productivity.
The workshop’s sessions included in-depth discussions on the role of rainfed crops in strengthening food security, sustainable agricultural production systems across different regions of the Kingdom, as well as exploring investment opportunities and strengthening partnerships with specialized international organizations.
This workshop is part of a series of programs organized by Estidamah to promote sustainable agriculture concepts and achieve the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in the agricultural sector, by localizing best agricultural practices and adopting modern technologies that contribute to sector sustainability and food security enhancement.
