The National Center for Sustainable Agriculture Research and Development (Estidamah) discussed today the role of digital innovation and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in supporting food security and addressing the challenges of drought and land degradation during a scientific session it organized as part of its participation in the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17), held in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.
The session, titled “Digitally Connected Land and Food Security: The Role of Digital Innovation and the Internet of Things in Addressing Drought and Land Degradation,” explored the potential of digital technologies to support land and agricultural resource management, as well as the use of data and connected technologies to monitor variables affecting agricultural production and support informed decision-making.
The session also discussed the role of Internet of Things technologies and digital solutions in advancing agricultural practices and improving resource management, thereby enhancing the capacity of agricultural systems to adapt to environmental and climatic conditions while supporting sustainable production and food security in areas affected by drought and land degradation.
The session reflects Estidamah’s commitment to leveraging research, innovation, and digital technologies to develop practical solutions to agricultural and environmental challenges, while strengthening the presence of Saudi research, knowledge, and expertise on international platforms dedicated to sustainable land management and agriculture.
