Through this workshop, Estidamah aims to boost the use of modern agricultural technologies in greenhouses in
Saudi Arabia to help achieve food security, enhance investment opportunities, create new jobs in the
agricultural sector, protect the Kingdom’s natural resources, especially water, and achieve the Kingdom’s 2030
Vision.
The workshop featured a training program that included updating participants on Estidamah and its role,
greenhouse development in the Kingdom, modern agricultural technologies, soilless culture, standard
specification of greenhouses in the middle region, crop management, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and
Estidamah findings of applying biological control as a safe and sustainable option to protect plants.
Furthermore, the workshop offered field applications, including access to the latest global greenhouse
technologies used in Estidamah, the key findings of Estidamah research over the past two years, greenhouse
specifications in Estidamah, how to produce seedling, as well as crop management.
This workshop comes as part of
the ongoing collaboration between Estidamah and ADF to enhance join partnerships in agricultural development,
mainly in organizing specialized workshops and training courses, fostering the culture of using modern
technologies to increase production and ensure agricultural products safety, water use efficiency based on
applied research conducted by Estidamah and other research centers.
As well, Estidamah seeks to enhance
investment in modern technologies in greenhouses, which form part of ADF’s role to encourage their use through
increasing the proportion of funding projects that rely mainly on using modern technologies up to 70% of both
investment and operation costs.
The workshop was attended by a number of investors in modern high-tech
greenhouses, who were updated on the latest greenhouse technologies, their applications in the Kingdom, the
risks involved and offered opportunities and how to capitalize on Estidamah’s expertise in modern greenhouse
technologies.
