Within the framework of introducing workers in the protected agriculture sector to integrated pest control methods, especially with regard to biological control, and over the course of two days - from November 12 to 13, 2019 - the National Center for Sustainable Agriculture Research and Development "Estidama" reviewed the challenges and latest technologies of integrated pest control inside greenhouses.
To achieve the desired benefit from the workshop from the scientific and practical aspects, the center was keen to invite both Dr. / Moeen Al-Qaryouti - Horticulture specialization, Dr. / Muhammad Awis - Horticulture specialization - and Professor Dr. / Gerben Messelink - Professor of Biological Control at Wagening University in the Netherlands and a specialist in integrated pest control management.
The lecturers reviewed the most important insects that cause diseases, how to monitor them, determine their numbers and the pests they cause, and train the audience of graduates of colleges of agriculture, entrepreneurs, farmers and investors in the field of protected agriculture on the latest different methods of using pesticides and how to avoid pest infestation.
At the end of the workshop, the lecturers received and answered the participants’ inquiries, and engaged in interactive discussions that enriched the workshop and the topics that were reviewed. The workshop also witnessed a ceremony honoring the lecturers and distributing certificates to the audience by Dr. Khal Al-Assaf, Director General of the Sustainability Center.
